Abstract

542,023. Wireless receiving apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. June 17, 1940, No. 10456. Convention date, June 16, 1939. [Classes 40 (iii and 40 (v)] In a receiver for electric wave signals, distortion due to transmission over paths requiring different times of propagation is corrected by an arrangement including a co-axial transmission line whereby a portion of the signal energy is withdrawn, its time of propagation is changed in relation to the remaining portion and it is then re-combined with the latter in the correct polarity for reducing the distortion. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which a portion of the output from receiver 3 is taken out through an adjustable resistance R1 into a time delay cable 4 the reflected energy being reintroduced through a resistance R2, the amplitude and polarity being suitably adjusted. A modified arrangement is described for a receiver having a balanced push-pull output (Fig. 5, not shown), and in a further arrangement, Fig. 6, a portion of power is taken from the signal output and fed back over cable 6 with suitable time delay to a point P of the circuit in advance of a signal amplifier SA. The applications of the above methods to a number of conditions due to lagging and leading interference are discussed. Specification 507,417 is referred to. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 the method is stated to be applicable to audio frequency telephone circuits to reduce echo effects and to acoustic arrangements in which case the delay line may be constituted by mechanical devices such as piezo-electric or magnetostrictive elements or even magnetized moving wheels or wires. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
