Abstract

411,061. Feeding sheets. WINKLER, A., 30, Seminarstrasse, and DUNNEBIER, M., 46, Engerser Landstrasse, both in Neuwied, Germany. Jan. 4, 1934, No. 380. Convention date, March 23, 1933. [Class 100 (i).] In connection with a sheet-feeding device of the kind in which the front edges of the pile S are supported by rotating gapped discs 1, 11 and the lowermost sheet of the pile is withdrawn through the gaps by means of an oscillating suction separator 21, the separation of the sheets is assisted by means of air blasts which are emitted from nozzles 29 fitted to the discs 1, 11. The machine is especially applicable for feeding envelope blanks in overlapped condition to a machine for gumming the flaps, and the front edges of the blanks are supported by a hook 20 from which the lowermost blank is removed by the action of the separator 21. The separator removes the bottom blank to the position w, Fig. 1, with a part of the-blank supported by the forward portion 16<1> of the pile table 16. A pair of rollers 23 carried by crank arms 25 on shafts 10 from which the discs 1, 1<1> are driven then presses the end of the blank into contact with an intermittently driven roller 26 and the blank is advanced to an extent equal to the desired distance between successive blanks. The air blasts are directed between the separated blank and the pile during the separating action and the blasts are directed at an angle which is inclined to the direction of motion of the blank. The blast extends over an arc which can be adjusted by choosing rotatable shafts 3 for the discs 1, 1<1> with bores 31 having slots of different length which register with slots in a fixed connecting-piece 32 which can be adjusted in angular position to vary the position of the air-swept sectors. The action of the separation devices is assisted further by means of an adjustable suction device 45 which is caused to engage the sheet next to the one being withdrawn so as to prevent its premature withdrawal. When dealing with rough paper, compressed air is introduced from a box 41 between the pile table and the sheet which is being withdrawn as is described in Specification 368,176. Specifications 351,842 and 410,877 also are referred to.
