[Class 59.] In a roller mill the bearings of the movable roll are each movable by a bellows, the two bellows being connected by a conduit to another bellows under the control of an adjusting screw whereby the pressure of the movable roll is controlled. As shown in Fig. 1, the movable roller 1 is loaded by spring metal bellows 4, 5 containing gas or liquid and connected by a pipe 7 to a similar bellows 6 which is compressed by a spring 13, the pressure being transmitted to the bellows by a screw 9 carried in a spring follower plate 10. A gauge 8 indicates the pressure on the bearings. In a modification the pipe line 7 is provided with a valve from each side of which pipes lead to separate bellows 6 compressed by a common screwed member through adjustable members whereby the pressure on the ends of the roll may be varied. In Fig. 2 the movable rollers are supported on lever arms 10 suspended by rods 12 from bellows 4, 5, the control bellows 15 being operated by an eccentric 16 carried on one arm of a bell-crank, the other arm 17 of which is supported by a spring 18. The position of the eccentric is regulated by a screw 11. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also comprises a movable roller 1, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), mounted on a pivoted lever 23, the free end of the lever being supported on a bellows 28 housed in a casing 26 which is supported by a spring 27 from an eccentric 25. The rod 24 is in two parts connected by a sleeve, and the pressure on the rolls is indicated by a gauge connected to the bellows 28. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
