410,365. Nonconducting coverings for heat; refrigerators. PARISH, R. L., 25, Broadway, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 17, 1933, No. 22973. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1932. [Classes 29 and 64 (ii).] Heat transmission between the outer and inner shells 20, 21 of a refrigerator cabinet is prevented by a unit structure 29 having one or more sheets of dullsurfaced metal such as cold-rolled black steel of 0.006 inch thickness. The metal surface has high reflective and low emissive properties within the wave lengths of the radiation concerned. The unit, Fig. 5, is formed with bent edge portions 30<a> integral with the sheet 30, while the sheet 31 is formed with a flange 31<a> interlocking with the part 30<a>. The central plane of the two sheets, or the sheet itself if there is only one, is arranged closer to the wall exposed to the higher temperature, at a position which may be calculated. Each sheet may have parallel ribs, and the parts between the ribs may be slightly inclined to one another instead of being in the same plane. In a modification, the spaces between the ribs may be provided with shallow diamond-shaped depressions.
