Solche Glasgefäße sind Beschädigungen infolge von Stößen, und ungleichmäßigen Abkühlens der Wandungen sowohl beim Einfüllen und Transport der flüssigen Luft als auch beim Ausgießen derselben außerordentlich leicht ausgesetzt. Solche Gefäße eignen sich für Bergbaubetriebe überhaupt nicht, da durch häufiges Zerspringen ihre Verwendung zu kostspielig wird und Verletzungen durch Glassplitter und flüssige Luft eintreten können. Um diese Übelstände zu beseitigen, ist man zu den hoch evakuierten Metallgefäßen übergegangen. Aber auch diese Metallgefäße sind kostspielig in der Herstellung, und die dazu geeigneten Metalle, wie Kupfer und Messing, sind bei der jetzigen Knappheit dieser Metalle nur schwer zu beschaffen. Außerdem lassen auch diese Metalle auf die Dauer die Luft durch, so daß die Gefäße keinen genügenden Schutz mehr gegen Einwirkung der äußeren Wärme bieten. Es wurde ferner vorgeschlagen, Vorrichtungen mit mehreren, drei bis vier, zu dem inneren Behälter konzentrisch angeordneten Gefäßen zu benutzen, 'deren Hohlräume zum Teil oder gänzlich mit Isoliermasse ausgefüllt und derart mit dem Innenbehälter sowie untereinander verbunden sind, daß die aus dem inneren Behälter ausströmenden und durch Ventile unter Druck gehaltenen kalten Dämpfe die zur Isolierung gebildeten Hohl- 4^ räume durchströmen, dabei die Wandungen der Isolierräume bespülen und abkühlen und schließlich durch ein Ventil nach außen entweichen. Auch diese Gefäße sind in der Herstellung sehr kostspielig, und ihr Umfang und ihr Gewicht ist ein beträchtliches, so daß sie sich als 'handliches Transportgefäß, wie es in erster Linie der Bergmann benötigt, keineswegs eignen.iS cavity wall used. Es wurde nun die überraschende Beobachtung gemacht, daß man die Isolierwirkung eines gegebenen, zweckmäßig mit ruhender Luft oder mit einem ruhenden Gase gefüllten Isolierraumes dadurch erhöhen kann, daß man diesen Isolierraum derart durch eine große Anzahl von'Zwischenwänden unterteilt, daß' eine entsprechende Anzahl für sich abgeschlossener Isolierräume entsteht. Es wurde z. B. gefunden, daß man in einem Gefäß von 6 Liter Inhalt mit einem isolierenden Luftmantel von 45 mm Stärke flüssige Luft nur 5x/2 Stunden aufbewahren konnte, wohingegen; sich flüssige Luft in einem gleich großen Gefäß 21 Stunden hielt, bei dem der Luftmantel von der gleichen Stärke von 45 mm durch Einschaltung einer entsprechenden Anzahl von Zwischenwänden in 19 einzelne Isolierräume unterteilt war.
