Abstract
409,898. Sluice gates. BUNTING, S. A. S., 133, Finchley Road, Hampstead, London. April 18, 1933, Nos. 11333 and 11708. [Class 68 (ii).] A tidal gate has beyond its horizontal axis an upward extension working in a masonry or like chamber and functioning after the manner of a dashpot. Fig. 1 shows a frame made of channel members 15 embedded in concrete or masonry 11 ; it supports renewable bearings 16 for the pivots 17 of the gate 20, 22, and a seating 19 for the face of it. In the part 11 is formed a dashpot chamber 23 over which is bolted a front cover 26, and in which move the upper part of the gate 20 and the counterweight 21. The lower edge of the cover 26 is fitted with a staunching-member 27 bearing against a cylindrical part 28 on the gate. Staunching along the edges of the gate may be effected by rubber &c. strips 33, Fig. 2, which are mounted on resilient plates 34 set in a channel-like attachment 30, 32, 36 attached to the facing 31 of the gate. The top edges may also be staunched as at 27, 28, Fig. 1.
