Convention date, Jan. 26, 1932. [Class 29.] A liquid waterless halogen compound, such as di-, tri-, per-, or pentachlorethyline, tetrachlorethane or carbontetrachloride, used as a brine for cold storage or transport, is covered, where its surface would be exposed to the air, by a layer of liquid such as glycerine, glycol, or solutions of salt, calcium chloride, soda, or potash, to prevent evaporation of the halogen compound. Calcium carbonate, soda, zinc oxide, or lead carbonate, may be added to the brine to prevent the formation of any corrosive acid.
