Abstract

409,654. Printing-machines. BORNKESSEL, P., 16, Bannstrasse, S³dende, Berlin. Aug. 29, 1932, No. 24126. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 5, 1933.] [Class 100 (ii).] Curved or other solid articles 20, Fig. 3, are printed on by printing- plates 6 carried by a drum 4 and receiving ink from one or more inking-rollers 7 arranged around the drum 4 and driven therefrom. The printing-plates 6 are preferably provided with type-high ridges 29 which assist to feed the articles 20 and prevent spreading of the resilient printing-surface 6. This surface 6 is mounted on a resilient support carried by a plate 26, and holes, slots &c. 28 are provided in the drum 4 for receiving screws, bolts, or like securing means 27. A number of printing-plates may be arranged in line around the drum, or across the drum, and the articles 20 may be carried by levers &c. fitted with means for restoring them to their original position after an impression has been made. The plates 6 receive their ink from rollers 7 supplied from ducter rollers 5 formed with resilient coatings on which a supply of ink is spread. Ink is ground on the rollers 5 by means of rollers 9 which are axially reciprocated by means of cross screws 9<a>. Between the rollers 5 and 7 are arranged axially reciprocating rollers 8 which are reciprocated against the action of springs by oscillating levers 13 operated by cams 11 and formed at their ends with rollers engaging freely-mounted pulleys 14 on the shafts of the rollers 8. The extent of reciprocation of the rollers is limited by adjustable stops 16. The active part of the roller 8 consists of an adjustable number of resilient discs 18 which produce a coating of ink on the roller 7 that is not wider than the printing-surface. For multi-colour printing the rollers 7, when passing plates 6 which are not to be inked, are raised by adjustable cams 21 acting on discs 23 at the ends of the rollers 7. One set of rollers is driven by gearing from the drum 4, and the others may be driven by chains 25 from this set. The rollers 7, 5, 9 are preferably arranged radially of the drum 4, and are pressed towards the same by springs or gravity.
