Abstract
409,256. Mercury boilers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Coulson, B. P. ; 11, North Church Street, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 28, 1933, No. 36487. Convention date, Dec. 29, 1932. [Class 122 (iii).] Comprises improvements in the heating and circulating tubes of mercury-vapour generators of the kind described in Specification 378,218. The tube 16 is welded at 18 to the drum 10 and is provided with a core made by connecting two parts 19, 20 to provide an internal passage 23 for the liquid, and an external annular passage 24 for the vapour. The hermetically sealed space of the core is filled with a gas such as Toluol or Methane which has a heat conductivity less than that of air, and may be readily detected in the case of leakage in the boiler-drum or elsewhere. The baffle 12 carries a tube 25 which is held against longitudinal movement by a projection 27 and enters a bore in the core. A sleeve 28 is welded to the upper part 29 of the core and provides a small annular space which acts as a hydraulic seal to prevent access of the vapour to the liquid. Spacing blocks are provided between the core and the tube, and knobs 13, 15 are provided between the baffle plate and the filler block 14 and drum 10.
