Abstract

409,123. Moulding synthetic resins &c. in stationary-mould machines. EATON, M. M., 18, Brearley Street, Birmingham. March 20, 1933, No. 8310. [Class 87 (ii).] In the moulding and curing of synthetic resin or other plastic material, the moulds 1 are superposed in a press chamber heated by steam pipes 7 or other means, and are compressed intermittently by a ram 3 while supported against a fixed abutment 2, the bottom mould being delivered laterally to a conveyer 25 and an additional freshly-charged mould being fed to the top of the pile after each stroke of the ram. The bottom mould falls into a recess in a sliding plate 8 which is reciprocated by a crank 12 and during its movement also operates the ram through the medium of the bell-crank lever 19 and the feed slide 27 through the linkage 28, 29, 30. A compression spring 23 yields when the ram is prevented from making its full stroke before the powder in the top mould has been plasticised by the heat and automatically lowers the ram as the plasticising proceeds. The moulds for feeding into the apparatus preferably are stored in a heated magazine 26. The moulds are all made to standard exterior dimensions, but a variety of articles may be moulded simultaneously.
