Abstract

A tubular body produced from viscose, cuprammonium cellulose, or the like, after it has left the bath in which it is formed, is led more or less in a straight line and in an upwardly inclined direction while it is subjected to the action of the treating and washing liquids, and is subjected to a regulated inflation. The cellulosic tube K may be inflated by means of a narrow tube T which passes through the <PICT:0408774/IV/1> nozzle orifice F and lies along the cellulosic tube with its end U above the level of the coagulating bath inside the tube. If desired, the pressure within the cellulosic tube may be automatically maintained constant by means of a device which will apply vacuum or pressure to the tube T as required. In an example, a tube formed by extruding viscose in a slightly upwardly inclined direction into a solution of ammonium salt, is passed on to two or more slightly upwardly incline conveyers on which it is sprayed firstly with the sulphuric acid fixing liquid, and then with water or steam for washing. The tube passes between nip rollers into after-treatment baths, for example, of sodium sulphide, bleaching solution, or dilute glycerine. These further treatments may, however, be applied whilst the tube is still travelling in a straight line in an upwardly inclined direction.
