[Class 110 (iii).] A rotor a has peripheral ports b through which steam from a nozzle d passes into an annulus e which is packed with wire gauze f or similar flow-resisting material. In a modification, Fig. 3, the ports b<1> are arranged on the side face of the wheel, and in a further modification the ports take the form of spiral gauze-filled channels. Several wheels may be arranged in series, and a reversing section may be provided.
