[Class 38 (v).] A regulating-switch for electric hot plates or heaters has an off position, a position in which a resistance 52 is inserted into the circuit, and two other positions in which the resistance 52 is put in parallel or in series with a resistance 53. The switch is operated by a rotary shaft 30 carrying four cams each of which engages a roller 20 on a spring-controlled frame 15 .... 18 which carries a spring contact 9 adapted to bridge two fixed contacts 1, 2. Each cam has four depressions, one or more of which are shallow merely serving to define a switch position and the remainder of which are deep so as to allow engagement of the contacts. Fig. 4 shows one such cam with one shallow depression 50 and three deep depressions 39, 40, 45. Fig. 8 shows the circuit arrangement, and the four pairs of fixed contacts adapted to be selectively engaged by the four bridging members according to the rotary position of the shaft.
