Abstract
407,407. Grinding sheet glass. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., 703, Tower Building, Water Street, Liverpool, and WALDRON, F. B., Eccleston Park, Prescot, Lancashire. Sept. 22, 1932, No. 26382. [Class 60.] Wheels and other tools.-In a grinding tool 1 for grinding glass the operative surface 2 is formed by nogs or blocks 7 whose leading faces 13 are inclined forwardly (in relation to the direction of rotation) to radii of the tool and also forwardly away from the operative surface. The tool has a central aperture 4 separated from an annular channel 5 by a wall 10. The operative surface is divided up by circular grooves 6. The two inner rings are divided to form the blocks 7 by inclined grooves 8 but the grooves of the outer ring do not extend to the periphery of the disc. Abrasive is supplied to the central aperture through a hole 9 and passes through apertures 12 to the channel 5 and thence to the grooves. In a modification the tool may be made by bolting blocks on to a flat disc. The grooves 6 may be such that the inner face of each block is inclined inwardly away from the operative surface. The invention is particularly applicable to the grinding of the underside of a glass sheet.
