549,744. Producing splines by grinding. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD) Ltd., D., and ELLAM, L. Sept. 4, 1941, No. 11315. [Class 60] In the production of splines by grinding an abrasive wheel a, Fig. 1, having its flanks a' trued to the desired angle and having at the extremity of each flank a<SP>1</SP> a projection a<SP>3</SP> extending beyond the concave periphery a<SP>2</SP> corresponding to the root face of a gap between an adjacent pair of splines is fed into the spline gap a sufficient distance to form a longitudinal recess or groove b<SP>1</SP> at the root of each flank b<SP>2</SP>. The face a<SP>2</SP> is trued by a diamond c, Fig. 2, set to the required radius and limited in its swing by adjustable stops e engaging the lever f.
