Abstract

1,141,641. Trueing grinding wheels. COVENTRY GAUGE & TOOL CO. Ltd. 9 Feb., 1966 [10 Nov., 1964], No. 45690/64. Heading B3D. A forming element, roller or the like for forming a grinding wheel comprises an operative surface faced or impregnated with diamond particles. As described, the element is used for forming a helically-ribbed grinding wheel 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), for thread or gear grinding and the element may be in the form of a roller 2 having helical or annular ribs 4 or in the form of a ribbed block 3, Fig. 2 (not shown). The ribs 4 of the roller or block are faced or impregnated with diamonds 5, Fig. 3 (not shown). In use the roller or block, as the case may be, is traversed past the grinding wheel in timed relation to the rotation of the grinding wheel by means of a cam or other mechanism such as described in Specifications 749,559 and 557,946. In another embodiment, the forming element is in the form of a pair of discs 6 or 6a, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) with chamfered surfaces 8, 8a. Either the chamfered surfaces or the flat surfaces 9 may be faced or impregnated with diamond particles and engage the grinding wheel.
