Abstract

1,045,794. Screw-cutting taps; milling-cutters; grinding. BALAX INTERNATIONAL Ltd. April 24, 1963 [April 27, 1962 (2)], No. 16096/63. Headings B3D, B3K and B3N. A tap comprises lead teeth 121, Fig. 3 (not shown), which are bodily offset radially to effect a progressive variation in radius. The lead teeth may have rounded or flat crests 25 parallel in transverse section to the tap-axis 26 and following a curved or straight profile 52. Each crest may have a constant radius or be relieved at 47, Fig. 9 (not shown). The thread-flanks 23, 24, Fig. 8 (not shown), are symmetrical. For use on brittle materials, the lead threads of decreasing diameter need not be truncated. The lead-teeth may be formed by a milling- cutter or grinding disc 45, Fig. 8 (not shown).
