Abstract

546,353. Surface and outline gauges. THURLEY G. S., and BRITISH GEAR GRINDING & MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Feb. 25, 1941, No. 2575. [Class 106 (ii)] A template for checking the grinders used in precision gear grinding comprises a template a consisting of a mild steel body whereon is welded a hardened steel segment c on which the master involute b is formed, and a cut e made behind the part c at a part corresponding to the pitch circle of the teeth to be ground, a screw f being provided to stress the surface b to the desired form. A solid screw block g or a distance piece h may be provided to prevent undue stressing. The cut e is preferably normal to the curve b. In a modification the template is of comparatively thin plate to which are attached two thicker pieces at each side of the slot to take the screws. In a further form a piece of tapered spring steel forms the gauging surface the ends being spot welded at the ends to two bars provided with screws as above.
