Abstract

406,990. Electric-lamp holders. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., Hamilton House, Victoria Embankment, London, and WILSON, A. E., 19, Oaklands Road, Bromley, Kent. Sept. 1, 1932, No. 24391. [Class 39 (ii).] A plug 1, Figs. 1 and 2, is built up of insulating sections 3, 4 with a central conducting zone 2 forming the contact, the whole being a sliding fit in a socket 6 of similar construction, the annular contact 93 being arranged centrally in the insulating sleeve 7. The plug expels all gas from the socket before the contacts engage cooling rings 91, 92 of metal prevent the passage of hot gas to the atmosphere from the contacts 2, 93. As applied to a lamp of the type wherein a spring 10, Fig. 3, opens the circuit if the lamp 9 is broken, the plug consists of a contact 17 attached to an insulating plug 19 and mounted by a screw 16 on an insulating sleeve 13 that lines the metal sleeve 12 on which the spring acts. The socket comprises insulating members 27, 41 with an annular contact 29 that is connected by a metal sleeve 22 to the cable 25. The end of the socket is in communication with the atmosphere through channels 32, 35, 36, 37. The screw 16 forms the centre contact for the lamp.
