406,875. Chimneys and chimney tops. HARRISON, E., 13, Roy Street, Cornholme, Todmorden, Lancashire. April 6, 1933, No. 10291. [Class 25.' A device for preventing downdraught and assisting the updraught of chimneys comprises a box-like structure adapted to be fitted in a passageway through the wall of a chimney or chimney top and provided with one or more tongues A each counterweighted so as normally to project inwardly and upwardly into the flue and pivoted substantially centrally of its length by means of a spindle E fixed across the box-like structure and a bracket B on the tongue having elongated slots whereby on the upward passage of a sweep's brush the tongue may move out of the flue. The lower part of the device is formed with a deflector H and an air passage I. In the modification in which two tongues are provided, the undersides thereof near the lower edges are provided with rods J adapted to engage and pivot in slots K on the upward movement due to the passage of a brush.
