Abstract

Dry compositions which readily dissolve in cold water and have wetting properties are obtained by mixing a sulphonated alkylated polynuclear hydrocarbon or a sulphonated alkylated petroleum fraction with an alkali salt of a benzene or naphthalene sulphonic acid. Inorganic alkali salts may also be added. In an example a dry sodium salt of the product of example 1 of Specification 311,885, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes, &c.], is mixed with (a) sodium chloride and sodium benzylaniline sulphonate or potassium ethylaniline sulphonate, (b) sodium benzenedisulphonate and (c) sodium chloride and sodium benzene monosulphonate. In a further example, the dry sodium salt of the product of example 1 of Specification 246,817, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], is mixed with sodium benzylanilinesulphonate. The solutions of the components may be mixed and the resulting solution evaporated to dryness. Sulphanilic acid, 1-naphthalenesulphonic acid, naphthalene-2 : 7-disulphonic acid and naphthalene-1 : 3 : 6-trisulphonic acid are mentioned.
