Abstract

Detergents for general use are composed of bentonite and one or more detergent sulphonated products of the following types or their alkali salts: <FORM:0461221/III/1> where R<1>, R<2>, R<3> are aliphatic hydrocarbon residues containing respectively 10--20, 1--5, and 1--10 C atoms. Suitable proportions are 1 lb. of sulphonated product to 1--5lb. of bentonite. There may be added: the sulphonated alcohols described in Specification 401,413; alkaline material, e.g. borax, a sodium phosphate, sodium carbonate or bicarbonate, or any mixture; water and/or glycerine. In examples: (1) a dispersion of 6 oz. of bentonite and 3 oz. of C17H33.CONH.C2H4.SO3Na in 8 gallons of warm water is used for washing textiles; (2) a dispersion of 3 oz. of bentonite, 1 oz. of C15H31.O.SO3Na and 1 oz. of sodium bicarbonate in 100 oz. of water is used as a hair wash.ALSO:Shampoos are composed of bentonite and one or more detergent sulphonated products of the following types or their alkali salts: R1.CONH.R2.SO3H, R1.COOR3.SO3H, R1.O.SO3H, where R1, R2, R3 are aliphatic hydrocarbon residues containing respectively 10-20, 1-5 and 1-10 C. atoms. Suitable proportions are 1 lb. of sulphonated product to 1-5 lb. of bentonite. There may be added the sulphonated alcohols described in Specification 401,413, [Group III], alkaline material, e.g. borax, a sodium phosphate, sodium carbonate or bicarbonate, or any mixture; water and/or glycerine. In an example, 3 oz. of bentonite, 1 oz. of C15H31.O.SO3Na, and 1 oz. of sodium bicarbonate are dispersed in 100 oz. of water.
