Abstract

Pins for artificial teeth, and shaped metal bodies for other purposes, are formed with a core of base metal, such as nickel, a thin intermediate layer of platinum or other metal, or alloy of metals, of the platinum group, and an outer layer of gold or other ductile corrosion-resisting metal such as silver or an alloy of silver and gold. A nickel core of 3 c.m. diameter is fitted with sleeves of about 0.2 m.m. thickness of platinum and gold, and the various metals are caused to adhere, without solder, by pressure at a temperature of 600 DEG C. The body so formed is rolled to wire of 1 m.m. diameter and then drawn to 0.7 m.m. diameter. Pins, with or without an upset head, are then formed from this wire.
