Abstract
Pins for artificial teeth or other dental purposes which can be hard-soldered into a noble metal sleeve burnt into the tooth &c. are made from composite wire consisting of a nickel alloy core with an intermediate coating of platinum, palladium, rhodium, or alloy thereof and an outer coating of gold. An intermediate alloy layer may consist of 50 per cent of palladium and silver or of 80 per cent of gold with 20 per cent of palladium. The intermediate layer prevents the gold alloying with the case during the soldering operation; and the hardness decreases successively from the core towards the outer layer.
