Abstract
405,744. Windings for dynamo - electric machines. SHEPHERD, G. R., 2, Norfolk Street, Strand, London.-(Westing- house Electric & Manufacturing Co. ; East Pittsburg, U.S.A.) Sept. 21, 1932, No. 26254. [Class 35.] Coils.-In a machine having two windings insulated for different potentials, each winding has coils with one side immediately above a coil side of the other winding in a slot and the other side occupies the bottom of a slot below a coil side of the other winding. As shown diagrammatically for a four-pole alternator in Fig. 3, wherein the conductors of three phases are shown as rectangles with diagonal lines, blank, and cross-section lines, the higher potential winding is represented by the larger rectangles and comprises for one phase, conductors a', a<2> looped to a<3>, a<4>, and a third coil a<5>, a<6> connected by an end connection f to a coil of the other pole having a side a<7>, the coils of the second pole being arranged in a similar manner. This winding is in series with a lower potential winding consisting of coil sides a<13>-a<24> terminating at N<1>. The connections for the other two phase windings are similar, and in a star-connected machine, the terminals N<1> of each phase may be connected together and earthed.
