Abstract
409,435. Windings for dynamoelectric machines. BRITISH THOMSON. HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Shildneck, L. P. ; 108, 2nd Street, Scotia, New York, U.S.A.) Dec. 5, 1932, No. 34439. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1931. [Class 35.] In a multiple layer distributed winding a portion of at least one layer of the winding which produces a magnetomotive force opposing that produced by an adjacent layer is . short-circuited. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the winding is divided into three circuits A, B, C, with coil sides for each circuit distributed among four slots for each pole-pitch of twelve slots. The coil sides in slots 16, 17, 18 and, in addition, the corresponding sides for the other poles would carry currents in opposite directions and therefore a coil side in each of slots 16 and 18, and, with this particular pitch, both coil sides in slot 17, are short - circuited. These short-circuited coils c, h, for each pole are the first coils in circuits A and the last in circuit C, and the circuits A, B, C for each pole are arranged as in Fig. 6 in the case of a single phase machine, the circuits B being parallelconnected to ensure uniform current distribution. The connection m. Fig. 5, provides a neutral point for this arrangement, and the positive and negative signs indicate the connections to the exciter. In an alternative form, circuits A, B, C are series-connected and a similar coil short-circuiting arrangement may be used or, alternatively, only the first coil in each A circuit for each pole may be shortcircuited.
