Nov. 20, 1929, No. 35486. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1928. [Class 35.] In a homopolar alternator of the inductor type shown in Fig. 1, in which the proportion of stator slots to rotor poles is expressed by a whole number, the two parts a, b of the stator or the parts f, g of the inductor rotor are circumferentially displaced by an angle less than half the angle between adjacent rotor poles so that the e.m.f. curve of the machine approximates more closely to a sine curve. The ratio of inductor pole arc to pole-pitch is chosen greater or less than 1 : 2 so that the stator windings d produce e.m.f.'s represented by the curves m, n, Fig. 5, which are not in phase. By connecting the windings in series, a resultant e.m.f. shown by the curve p is obtained. With a multiple slot construction, the curve could be made to approach more closely the ideal form.
