Abstract

Systems depending on two or more machines; running generators in series; dynamos and motor combined for transmitting power.--Induction motors are operated either synchronously or asynchronously by supplying the stator windings with three-phase current in which the current in each phase is in the form of a surge as indicated in Fig. 3. The stator windings s, Fig. 6, may be either star or delta connected, and the rotor is provided with a single-phase winding w either short circuited or completed through slip rings connected to an external resistance. A multiphase rotor winding may be used if the impedances of the phases are made unequal. Stator and rotor may be interchanged. Supply current having the required characteristics may be obtained by connecting in series two three-phase generators producing currents of different frequencies, or by exciting a generator by means of a pulsating current.
