Abstract

Dry seed disinfectants, such as phenyl or tolyl mercuri actate mixed with a diluent such as talc, are treated, to prevent dust rising in use, by incorporating therewith a solid fatty or waxy body dissolved in a solvent and then removing the solvent by evaporation. In a modified process the diluent and the fatty or waxy body may be added to the solvent, such as toluene, in which the mercury compound has been prepared but from which it has not been isolated. Pigments such as iron oxide may also be added. Mineral wax or jelly, hydrogenated oils, beeswax, stearic acid and various other substances are given as examples of suitable fatty or waxy bodies. Incorporation of fatty or waxy bodies with dry seed disinfectants by grinding or by adding them in the form of emulsions is stated to be unsatisfactory. Specification 241,568, [Class 81 (i), Disinfecting &c.], is referred to.
