Abstract
404,817. Lifting - screws. LOTH, W. A., and GUYOT, S. M. H., 26, Avenue Charles- Floquet, Paris. Feb. 20, 1933, No. 5194. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1932. [Classes 4 and 114.] In aircraft having rotary lifting wings, the upper curved surface on the rotatable aerofoil is provided with slots through which air or other suitable fluid is passed under pressure or suction. An aerofoil 1 is provided with slots 3 on its upper surface and its closed outer end has perforations 4 whereby air is exhausted under centrifugal force and is sucked in through the openings 3. In an alternative form the end is completely closed and air is blown through the openings from the inside of the blade by means of a blower such as a vaned member 6 carried by the boss 2. In another arrangement a pump may be used and the gases forced through may include the engine exhaust gases. In an alternative form, the slots are connected to slots in the under surface of the aerofoil.
