Abstract
404,568. Delivering measured quantities of liquid. BOWKER, R. P., 75, Charles Street, Sheffield. Aug. 2, 1933, No. 21671. [Class 106 (v).] In a device for delivering measured quantities of liquid in which a measuring chamber 8 is connected by a pouring pipe 6 and an air vent pipe 7 with the closure 5 of a supply vessel such as a bottle or the like adapted to be tilted to deliver a measured quantity, the pouring pipe extends at an angle to the axis of the bottle and the end of the air vent pipe within the measuring vessel is arranged in such a position that during the operation of tilting the bottle to empty the measuring vessel the vent pipe remains sealed until the liquid in the bottle has passed the position where flow from the bottle is possible. In Fig. 1 the air vent pipe is shown within the pouring pipe. In Fig. 2 the air vent pipe is at the side of the pouring pipe, and, within the measuring chamber, is provided with an extension 11 arranged with its orifice in close proximity to the outlet 10a. Other slight modifications are described. The lines A-B and X-Y indicate the connection between the positions of the end of the air vent and the end of the pouring spout of the measuring chamber and the form of the pouring pipe. Assuming the bottle to have been inverted and the chamber filled, then when the bottle is being righted, and has reached such a position that the line A-B is horizontal the discharge of the measuring chamber begins but the position of the bottle is then such that further flow into the measuring chamber is impossible.
