Abstract

Fixed - chamber and moving-chamber apparatus ; controlling passage of air for ; varying quantity measured in.-A hollow conical plug is fixed to a tube n passing through the cork adapted to take within a bottle, cask &c., and a conical sleeve carrying the measuring-chamber q rotates around the plug, being turned by a handle a and having its motion limited by stops b. The plug is divided by a partition c and has inlet and outlet ports d, h, at the same level, an air passage k and a delivery spout i, while the sleeve has corresponding liquid ports and air ports l, m, so arranged that in the delivery position shown port m is in communication with the atmosphere, and in the filling position this port is connected to a tube p passing up into the bottle &c. Round the sleeve is fixed a bell-shaped member f reaching nearly to the bottom of the measuring-chamber and causing a siphon action which completely empties the chamber and prevents drip. The volume delivered may be varied by fitting different sizes of chamber or by varying the height of the member f. The measuring-chamber may be fixed and the plug rotated.
