Abstract
18,699. Wiles, J. F. Sept. 1. Measured quantities, delivering; measures of capacity.-In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, a glass or like measuring-vessel c is fitted to the stopper g of a bottle a, the tube d and air tube f passing through the stopper. When the bottle is held about horizontal, the vessel fills until the liquid rises above the air tube f, after which the bottle is rotated and the contents poured from the spout b The air tube may be dispensed with, and a non-return valve placed at the end of the tube d, which is then not curved round at its end, but is bevelled off. Or, again, the tube d may be used alone, the bottle being turned into such a position when emptying the measure that the liquid in it cannot escape. Where the bottle is too heavy to be tilted, or the measure is drawn from a cask &c., the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 is employed. In this case, the measure is fitted to a plug i and with a handle n, and it can be turned with the plug to cut off supply and discharge its contents. The pipe j communicates with the interior of the bottle or reservoir by the screw m.
