Abstract

404,396. Current collectors for electric vehicles. WHYMAN, F., Arncott, Greenway Road, Timperley, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Aug. 31, 1932, No. 24328. [Class 104 (iii).] In a pantograph collector provided with a single pan or skate 1, the frame 2 of the pan is pivotably supported on two pairs of links 4, 13, 8, 16, the links 13, 16 being pivoted on ears 21, 23 on the apex of the pantograph frame 31, 32. The links 13, 16 have extensions 15, 18 con. nected by pin and slot 15a, 18a or by toothed sectors, so that they move together, and the links 4, 8 have similar extensions 5, 9 similarly connected for the same purpose. This arrangement keeps the contact surface 33 of the skate parallel to the base of the pantograph and to a plane through the axes 14, 17, while permitting movement at right angles under the control of a spring 19 seated between the skate frame 2 and a base 20 pivoted to the apex of the pantograph. This movement is limited by engagement between a boss 12 on the frame 2 and an extension 20a on the base 20. The two sets of linkwork supporting the opposite ends of the skate may be connected by rigid rods 14, 17 on which the links 13, 16 are pivoted.
