Abstract

[Class 26.] In a closet of the double-trap type, the whole or part of the lower bend of the trap is cast integrally with the down leg of the trap and the body as a unit, and the top-portion, including the rim is cast as a separate unit which is attached to the body unit. The up-branch of the lower bend and the outlet branch of the trap may be formed in one or more separate parts which are subsequently united to the lower end and rear wall of the down leg. In one form, the closet is constructed of the four separately cast and subsequently united units shown in Fig. 4, namely, a top-portion including a flushing rim 12 having apertures 13, and an inlet-chamber 14a, five walls of an after-flush chamber 15, and an inlet 14 ; the basin body 1 integral with the pedestal 2, top-bend 5, down leg 6 and part of the lower-bend 7 ; a U-shaped portion 8 forming the completion of the lower bend ; and an outlet portion 9. The rim-portion is cast in the mould shown in Fig. 8 and comprising portions 40, 41 having recesses 42, 44 and flanges 43, 45 co-operating to form the flushing- rim, and recesses 47, 48 co-operating to form the inlet channel and after flush chamber, the moulding of the separating wall of the latter being produced by the insertion of the pre-cast member 59. The latter comprises a shelf portion 60, a forwardly sloping depending flange 61 co-operating with a wedge-shaped member 55 to form the front wall of the after-flush chamber, and a raised flange 62 of substantial width and bulk, which rests upon bosses 56 provided in the lower recesses and furnished with upstanding pins 57 to form the seat-hinge bolt-holes the flange being bored to receive the latter and also the spigot 53 of a stepped plug 51 introduced into the mould-portions 40, 41. Clay-slip is introduced through a central passage in the plug 51 and is withdrawn through a normally-plugged aperture 54. The bodyportion is cast in the mould shown in Fig. 6, which comprises a bottom-portion 22 having an upstanding-portion 23, a portion 24 secured to the bottom-portion, an upper portion 28, and two side portions 30, enclosing the members 23, 24. The various members are separated as shown, clay slip being introduced at 29 and withdrawn at 36, an air-rent 23 being provided. In another form, the complete double trap is cast integrally with the body, the wall separating the down leg and up-branch of the lower trap being produced by the insertion of a pre-cast member. In a further form, the said wall is produced by the provision of opposed projecting- ribs on the side members of the mould, which ribs are bridged by a layer of clay. The double trap may also take the form shown in Fig. 17.
