403,547. Wire &c. drawing; shearing. SCHUMAG SCHUMACHER METALLWERKE AKT.-GES. FUR PRAZISIONSMECHANIK, 35, Hauptstrasse, Aachen, Germany. March 20, 1933, No. 8352. Convention date, May 13, 1932. [Class 83 (iv).] Rods, wire, &c. are drawn continuously by alternately acting carriages and are sheared to length by mechanism which is operated from the cam shaft controlling the carriages, and which may be rendered operative at any point, and travels at the speed of the work. Carriages 5, 5a, are reciprocated by continuously rotating cams 17, 17a on a shaft 16 driven from an electric motor, and carry jaws 7, Fig. 2, slidable on rollers 9 on inclined ways in the carriages and adapted to grip the work on the forward movement, one carriage being always in engagement with the work. A carriage 6 supports the shearing-mechanism, and is reciprocated by a cam 32 when a pawl 31 engages a ratchet wheel 30, a one-revolution device releasing the pawl after one reciprocation of the carriage. Cutters 22, 22a are actuated during the reciprocation when levers 23, 23a strike stationary abutments 24. The cutter 22 is forked to straddle the work 15, or may have a hole through which the work passes and is guided in its movement by the surface 26, while the cutter 22a is caused constantly to bear against the upper cutter by a spring 27. Alternatively, only the cutter 22a may reciprocate. The pawl may be controlled by a magnet 36 energized when the work strikes a trip device 33 or by a cam rotated from a friction disc bearing on the work.
