Abstract
403,351. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. LANCIA & CO. FABRICA AUTOMOBILITORINO SOC. ANON., 99, Via Monginevro, Turin, Italy. March 14, 1932, No. 7548. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 28, 1932]. [Class 108 (iii).] In hydraulic shock-absorbers of the cylinder and piston type in which fluid is transferred directly from one side of the piston to the other differences of displacement on opposite strokes due to the piston rod are compensated by an air chamber. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the cylinder 2 and the piston 12 are connected respectively to lower and upper relatively movable members 4, 3. The hollow piston rod 11 is also connected to an outer casing 1 which encloses a helical compression spring 16 adapted to resist movement of the members 3, 4 towards one another. Separation of the members is limited resiliently by a helical spring 17. The cylinder 2 contains liquid and its lower end is connected by ports 15 as shown in Fig. 2 to a central air chamber formed by a tube 14 telescoping into the tubular piston rod 11. The air and the liquid are separated by a freely moving piston 14<1>. Liquid may be supplied to the cylinder through an opening 21 controlled by the screw plug 23. In a modification the tube 14 is dispensed with and the hollow piston rod 11 forms the air chamber. In a modification shown in Fig. 5, the lower end of the cylinder 2 is connected to a combined air and liquid reservoir 24 by a downwardlyextending tube 25. In a further modification shown in Fig. 6, the lower end of the cylinder 2 is connected to the interior of a bellows 26.
