Abstract

403,343. Jet propulsion of ships. WALLIN, A. F., Sk÷nvik, Sweden. Aug. 30, 1933, No. 24090. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1932. [Class 114.] A jet device for propelling ships comprises a nozzle surrounded by a drum located longitudinally and outside the vessel, and is characterised by the provision of a cone in the mouth of the nozzle whereby the steam or gas jet is spread and helps to induce the flow of the surrounding medium through the drum. A drum-shaped casing 4 is attached to the bottom of the boat by brackets 16 and contains within it a nozzleshaped member 5, 6 having pipe connections 9, 3 with a steam generator. The nozzles are provided with cone-shaped members 11 disposed with their conical surfaces in a direction to spread the outflowing steam of gas. To prevent vibration the stems 12 of the cones are supported in lugs 13 and the conical surfaces may, if desired, be grooved.
