Abstract
403,152. Fluid - actuated valves. EASDALE, D., Halfway, Fir Tree Road, Epsom, Surrey. July 7, 1933, No. 19501/32. [Class 135.] A valve device for maintaining a constant rate of flow, particularly adapted for maintaining a constant height of jet in a drinking water fountain of the upward jet type, comprises a piston operated valve housed in a vertical hollow cylinder G with the top connected to the delivery pipe and the bottom closed and having at mid-depth an enlargement of the bore P connected to the supply passage L. The piston N, the upper and lower portions of which are a good sliding fit in the cylinder, has the middle portion slotted or reduced so as to provide a space gradually increasing in crosssectional area from the lower portion up to a circumferential groove R connected by internal passages H, M with the top and bottom faces of the piston. A push knob is acted on by a light spring C resting on a gland E is mounted on a spindle having an eccentric head J adapted to engage a shoulder formed in a recess K in the piston. To open the valve the knob is depressed to cause the head J to engage the bottom of the recess and move the piston to bring the lower end of the recessed part opposite the inlet. Thereafter the valve falls by gravity until the piston reaches a position wherein the difference of the pressures acting on the two sides equals the weight of the piston. On releasing the knob the piston is moved to its upper position with the packing S engaging the seat S<1>.
