Abstract
402,551. Actuation of switches. GROVES, W. W., 30, Southampton Buildings, London. -(Briggs Manufacturing Co. ; 11631, Mack Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Aug. 16, 1932, No. 22971. [Class 38 (v).] A switch for the circuit to the electrodes of a welding - machine comprises contacts 85, 86, closed by a bridge-piece 91 on movement of a fluidactuated piston 94, the switch being automatically closed on forward movement of a piston 65 to cause the electrodes to approach. Means are also provided for breaking the circuit after a predetermined time-interval. On movement of the piston 65, passages 104, 105 are exposed to admit pressure fluid to a channel 102, the fluid passing through a needle valve 106 to one side of the piston 94, and through a cylinder 107 and a second needle valve to the other side of the piston 94. The valves are so adjusted that the piston initially moves to the right to close the switch and after a predetermined time interval moves to the left as the pressure is built up on the right-hand face of greater area to open the circuit, the movement being in part assisted by a spring 98.
