Abstract

Rubber thread is made by streaming a coagulant into a body of latex, and continuously withdrawing the filamentary coagulum thus formed. Usual coagulants, such as acetic or formic acids, or alcohol may be used, and these may be thickened by the addition e.g. of cellulose acetate, gums, or resins. Heat sensitive latex may be employed, and a hot coagulant streamed into it. On emerging from the bath the surface of the thread is preferably hardened by treatment with a coagulant. The thickness of the p thread depends on the size of the nozzle, nature of the coagulant, rate of flow, length of bath, speed of withdrawal of the thread. Vulcanized latex may be used, or the thread may be subsequently vulcanized. Specifications 214,615, 290,313, 307,315, and 311,844, [all in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.], are referred to.
