402,200. Measures of length. RABONE & SONS, Ltd., J., Hockley Abbey Works, Whitmore Street, and TERRY, F., 9, Middle Park Road, Selly Oak, both in Birmingham. Aug. 19, 1932, No. 23243. [Class 106 (ii).] In a metal measuring tape or rule of the type furnished at the end with a slidably adjustable cranked member to take an abutment against an objec or to hook over the edge of a surface, the end of the rule or the slidable member is provided with a longitudinal slot or slots in which engage tongues on the other member, the end of the rule being provided with a notch to receive the sliding member in its inner position. The device is shown as applied to a tape measure. The cranked member 10 is formed of sheet metal, two tongues 10<c> being stamped out of such width as to pass through a slot 9<b> in the end of the tape 9 over the ends of which they are afterwards bent. The slot in the tape is longer than the distance between the tongues by the thickness of the flange 10<b> so that either the outer or inner surface of the flange may register with the end of the tape. The flange lOb may be formed with a slot which in the covered up position of the tape engages a projection on the casing which is sprung into the slot to lock the device when closed.
