402,090. Brake transmitting-mechanism. BRETTELL, F. G., 14, High Holborn, London. -(Bendix Aviation Corporation ; 105, West Adams Street, Chicago, U.S.A.) May 18, 1932, No. 14131. [Class 103 (i).] Brake transmitting-mechanism for motor vehicles comprises a pair of levers 24 pivoted at 30 on brackets 26 secured to the chassis members 20 and each connected at its ends by cables or rods 14 to the front and rear brakes on one side of the vehicle. A shaft 34 connecting the levers is moved bodily longitudinally of the vehicle to apply the brakes by a hand lever 44 or a pedal 42 connected by links, preferably to levers 36 which depend from the cross-member 22 and through which the shaft passes. The brackets 26 are adjustably bolted to the frame 20 and are formed with a tongue 28 between which and the main part of the bracket the levers 24 are disposed. The levers 24 have a series of holes 32 for attaching the cables 14 whereby the desired distribution of the force between the front and rear brakes may be obtained. The provision of four points of support for the shaft 34 ensures operation of the brakes on at least one side of the vehicle should the shaft break.
