[Class 79 (iii).] An engine is attached to the frame of a motor vehicle by laminated springs pressed together and interleaved with layers of frictional braking material where relative displacement of adjacent laminae occurs under bending stresses. At points of attachment where such relative movement does not occur, interleaved layers of soft or yielding material may be provided. As shown, sets of laminae 6 are attached at their middle portions by clips 17 and bolts 5 to the longitudinals 1 and, at their ends, by clips 18 and bolts 8 to cross members 3 and 4 of the engine unit 2, the unit being hinged at its rear end to a resilient blade 16 fixed to a transverse frame member 15. At the ends, where relative displacement occurs on bending, the laminae are pressed together and interleaved with layers 13 of a material having a high frictional co-efficient such as leather, compressed cardboard, impregnated asbestos &c. Each compression bolt 8 passes through rubber blocks 7 located in seatings 7a in the cross members 3, 4, a nut 12 thereon acting through a spring 11 enclosed by a cap 10. At the central attachment 17, the laminae may be interleaved with layers of rubber, rubberized fabric, cork or other soft and resilient material. The arrangement shown may be reversed, the central attachment of the laminae being to the engine and the end attachments being to the longitudinals. Modifications are described wherein the laminae are attached at one end to the engine and at the other end to the frame.
