Abstract
401,737. Detecting, indicating, and locating faults. ALLIBONE, T. E., Senlac, Norman Road, Sale, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. May 20, 1932, No. 14339. [Class 37.] Relates to apparatus for generating high voltage impulses as described in Specification 344,862 in which condensers are charged in parallel and discharged in series. According to the invention the spark-gaps F1-Fn, Fig. 1, are all segregated in a closed chamber or tube B, which may be located inside or outside a tank A containing the condensers C1-Cn, the charging-resistances W1, W2, and " stabilizing " condensers Cs shunted across the gaps F. A potentiometer Pr allows any fraction of the output voltage to be tapped off at T. The tube B may be filled with gas under regulable pressure, and the tank A may be evacuated or filled with liquid dielectric. As shown in Fig. 4 the condensers are charged in parallel across the terminals D, E from a low-voltage source. When the spark-gaps break down, the condensers C1-discharge in series and deliver a high voltage to a load or " test" circuit M, I. A resistance r which serves to damp out oscillations, is inserted as shown in Fig. 4, or may be divided between the gaps as shown at r1, r2, r3, in Fig. 5.
