Abstract
401,396. Fusible cut-outs. BAKER, C. J. and FOSTER, D., 13, Cursitor Street, London. June 8, 1932, No. 16203. [Class 38 (i).] A fuse cartridge 1 is divided by longitudinal partitions 5 into three or more chambers, the fuse strips 7 passing through slots near the centre of the partitions and being thinned or made more fusible at a point in the central chamber to localize the fusion. Both the partitions 5 may be formed in one piece as a somewhat rectangular tube, Fig. 4, slotted from each side at 6 to receive two fuse strips, the slots being partly covered by sheets 11. The cartridge is closed at the ends by washers 3 of asbestos reinforced by discs 4 of fibre or metal, the strips 7 passing through the discs into contact with end caps 17. In a modification, Fig. 6, two short lengths of rectangular tube 5 may be placed end to end with a pair of broad strips 7 between them, the strips being prolonged between lugs 15 on the semi-circular end caps 14 that are held in place by a spring ring 16. The lugs 15 are embraced by a V-shaped spring clip 19 which may be compressed by a bolt 18. In this form a washer 3 of asbestos is placed between a disc 12 of fibre and a disc 14 of brass. The chambers or some of them may be filled with sand &c.
