400,896. Vehicle bodies. BUDD MANUFACTURING CO., E. G., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A. -(Assignees of Ledwinka, J. ; 47th Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) July 7, 1933, No. 19281. Convention date, July 7, 1932. [Class 108 (i).] In vehicle metal bodies the body side sill is of downwardly presenting channel or angle section and the lower edge of the body side wall unitary stamping is formed of inwardly presenting channel section secured to the body sill. Fig. 1 shows a body sill, the inner edge of which is straight to conform to the chassis sill and the outer edge conforms to the curvature of the body. The sill 15, Fig. 3, has its outer edge flanged downwardly and inwardly at 20, 29 and its inner edge is offset at 16, 17 to support the floor boards 18. At the bolt positions the sill is more deeply offset and is reinforced by strips 26, a layer of felt 23 being interposed between the sill and the chassis 22. The side stamping at the door openings is flanged inwardly, the depth of the door and door post 28 and is secured to the upper face of the sill by offset portion 31 and to the outer and lower wall of the sill by welding as shown. Figs. 4 and 6 show other forms, splash boards 36, 41 being secured to the sills 15 and to the side panels as shown. In Fig. 4 the outer face of the sills is sloped as shown.
