Abstract
400,869. Fibrous tubes. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MAATSCHAPPIJ TOT BEHEER EN EXPLOITATIE VAN OCTROOIEN, 57, Zeekant, The Hague. May 8, 1933, No. 13332. Convention date, May 17, 1932. [Class 99 (ii).] A tube for use as a heat non-conducting covering for a pipe &c. comprises glass silk or like fibrous material 5 with an outer layer 12 of helically-wound strip paper, asbestos, metal, &c., and it is formed in apparatus comprising a rotatable mandrel 1 with radial ribs 4 and a surrounding mould 2 having an internal thread 3. The fibrous material is fed to the mandrel and is wound thereon to form a charge 5 which is forced into the mould to engage the thread 3 by a member 6, slidable upon the mandrel and having slots to accommodate the ribs 4 thereof, whereupon it is caused to move helically forward. Simultaneously the paper &c. strip 12 from a roll 11, after passage over a glueing roller 14, is fed to the mould through a longitudinal slot 10 in its wall and is consequently wound upon the previously-formed fibrous body. Several outer layers may be applied simultaneously to the tube, in which case a corresponding number of lead-in slots are provided in the mould, and when strip metal is used adjacent coils may be united by welding or soldering. The completed tube is cut into lengths by a disc &c. saw 16, and another saw (not shown), may be provided for slitting the tube longitudinally so as to enable it to be bent open for application to the pipe.
