Abstract
400,751. Epicyclic toothed gearing. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA, 570, Lexington Avenue, New York, U.S.A. Aug. 26, 1932, No. 23961. Convention date, Jan. 28. [Class 80 (i).] In planetary toothed reduction gearing, particularly for driving the turntable of sound recording or reproducing apparatus from an electric motor, wherein each tooth of any gear in the system makes a greater number of contacts with any one of the gear members meshed therewith in a given period than the number of revolutions made by the low speed member relative to a fixed point in the same period, so that any disturbances generated by physical irregularities in the gearing are of relatively high frequency, the gearing includes one gear member which is held against rotation by a shock-absorbing device which serves to damp out the relatively high frequency disturbances. A shaft 13, driven by the motor through a flexible coupling R, is connected to a vertical shaft 2 through bevel gearing N, P. A flywheel G keyed to the upper end of the shaft 2 carries a rotatably-mounted shaft 7 to the ends of which are secured planetary pinions F, U which have unequal numbers of teeth and which mesh respectively with a gear E, secured to a shaft 3 connected to the turntable through a flexible coupling (not shown), and with a gear I which is held stationary by means of a radial arm M which is secured to the hub of the gear I and is connected by a spring L direct to the side wall of the oil-filled housing Z enclosing the gearing and by a spring J to one end of a bellows K, the other end of which is secured to the casing wall. A needle valve associated with the bellows K controls the flow of oil into and out of the bellows. The shaft 2 is supported by an adjustable member 1, the shaft 3 is journaled in a plate 6 secured to the flywheel G, and the hub 9 of the plate 6 is journaled in a plate 8 secured to the housing Z. A second flywheel (not shown) is secured to the shaft 3 above the plate 8 but below the resilient coupling.
