Abstract

Revolution-direction indicators.-A shaft 1 driven by reduction gearing from the main shaft drives a flyer-carrying frame 11 through a friction clutch comprising segments 16 enclosed by a spring 15. The epicyclic flyerspindle is driven through gear-wheels 22 ... 26, and the frame is controlled by spiral springs 30, 31 acting in opposite directions. The movement of the frame is transmitted electrically to a dial by means of an insulated barrel 35 carrying metallic rings 36, 36<a>, which are engaged by brushes 37 and thus control the current passing through electro - magnets 48, Figs. 6 and 8, which govern the movement of a swinging pole-piece 62 to which an indicating- pointer 46 is attached, speed and direction pointers being mounted on the same dial. Periodic-counter speed-indicator transmission mechanism.-The shaft 1 carries also a make- and-break cam which controls electro-magnets 52 in the receiver; these electro-magnets operate, through links 53, 55, an escapement pallet 54 for a spring motor which operates speed-indicating pointers 50, 51. The pointer mechanism of Specification 1989/15 is employed. Specification 807/86 also is referred to.
